Character Counts!

2009-2010 City of Courage
Aplington Elementary collected coins for the Red Cross to help with the Hurricane Katrina disaster. A representative from the Red Cross came and talked to us about what they do and also donated a white flag with a red cross on it.
Character education was started in Aplington Elementary during the 2000-2001 school year. Each grade level teacher is assigned one pillar and a month to present that pillar to the elementary. We have had many speakers and numerous events during these six years! Character is VERY important. Even if you model good character at home, it's always good to practice it at school!
In the Fall of 2002, Aplington Elementary started Pillar Partners. Pillar Partners are groupings of students in grades K-5 that meet once a month. Each Pillar Partner grouping is led by a teacher. At the meetings, the students participate in an activity related to the pillar of the month.
